Common requests

What the office handles every day

State government agencies

Stuck with VicRoads, Housing Victoria, the Department of Transport, WorkSafe, the TAC, or another state-level department? Josh's office can often cut through the red tape and get you to the right person.

Congratulatory messages

Significant birthdays (50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th, 100th), wedding anniversaries (25, 40, 50, 60, 70 years), citizenship, and community milestones. Josh can arrange a personal letter, and for major milestones, a message from the Premier or even The King.

Download the anniversary message request form.

Information for Request of Anniversary Message.

Local issues and concerns

Potholes on a state road, school funding, public transport, planning, parks and open space. If it's a state-government matter affecting Sunbury, Josh wants to hear it.

Community groups & grants

Josh's office supports hundreds of community groups across the electorate. We can help you identify state grants you're eligible for, write a stronger application, and connect with relevant departments.

School and community visits

Invite Josh to your school, kinder, sporting club, CFA, RSL, Men's Shed, community market or cultural festival. Student tours of Parliament House can also be arranged.

Parliamentary petitions

If you're organising a petition on a state-government issue, Josh's office can help you word it correctly so it meets the standing orders of the Legislative Assembly, and lodge it on your behalf.

Before you get in touch

Who does what in Australia

It's not always obvious which level of government handles what. Here's a quick guide so you end up with the right office faster.

State (that's Josh)

Schools, hospitals, public transport, police, VicRoads, state housing, TAFE, planning, parks, emergency services, state forests, land titles, courts.

Federal

Medicare, Centrelink, NDIS, tax, immigration, defence, universities, aged pension, telecommunications, post. Your federal MP depends on where you live:

  • Sunbury, Diggers Rest or Bulla. Sam Rae MP (Hawke).
  • Gladstone Park or Tullamarine. Jo Briskey MP (Maribyrnong).
  • Westmeadows. Basem Abdo MP (Calwell).

Josh's office can point you in the right direction if you're not sure.

Council (Hume)

Rubbish, recycling, local roads, footpaths, parks maintenance, planning permits for houses, animals, community halls, libraries. Hume City Council: (03) 9205 9555.

How it works

What to expect when you get in touch

Step by step

  1. You reach out, phone, email, post, or drop in at the office.
  2. The office researches. That might mean talking to the relevant department, minister's office, or community organisation.
  3. The office responds with options. Sometimes that means a letter from Josh; sometimes it's a referral; sometimes it's direct advocacy.
  4. Josh's office stays with it until you have a clear outcome, or until it has exhausted what can be done.

What to send us

  • Your full name, address, phone and email.
  • A clear description of the issue, what's happened, when, and who you've already spoken to.
  • Any reference numbers, case numbers or letters you've received from the agency.
  • What outcome you're hoping for.
  • Any deadline or urgency we should know about.

Every enquiry is treated in confidence. Josh's office follows the Victorian privacy principles. See the privacy statement.

Getting to the right person faster

Which team member to ask for

Josh has a small team in the Sunbury electorate office who triage every enquiry that comes in, by phone, email, post or in person. Sometimes Electorate Office Staff are required at local events or in Parliament House, so they encourage people to call ahead if they would like assistance with any state government matters.

If you've already been dealing with someone in the office, ask for them by name when you call; it usually speeds things up. If it's a first-time enquiry, just describe what's needed and the team will point you to the best person.

Phone is fastest

For anything time-sensitive, calling the office is the quickest way to reach a real person.

Outside hours, please email josh.bull@parliament.vic.gov.au and the office will respond as soon as it reopens.

Appointment with Josh

Meeting Josh at the electorate office

Josh meets with a range of constituents and community groups at the Electorate Office. Staff will triage appointments based on the nature of the request and the diary, and in some cases, it can be more efficient to be assisted directly by a member of the team.
