State Member for Sunbury
About Josh
Born in Sunbury. Schooled in Sunbury. Teaching in Sunbury. Still here, still fighting for this community.
Born in Sunbury. Schooled in Sunbury. Teaching in Sunbury. Still here, still fighting for this community.
Josh was born in 1985 and raised in Sunbury after his parents moved to the community in the 1970s. He went to Sunbury Heights Primary School and Sunbury College, and has lived and worked in this community ever since.
After graduating from Deakin University in 2007 with a combined Science & Education degree (majoring in environmental science), Josh became a secondary school teacher. Before that, and during university, he worked in the produce section at the Sunbury IGA, as a duty manager at Safeway, and as an environmental educator with the Gould League.
His mother Lesley worked for twelve years as an integration aide supporting students with disabilities in local schools. Josh has often credited that experience with shaping his commitment to disability services and inclusive education.
Josh has been the State Labor Member for Sunbury since November 2014, when he became the inaugural Member for the newly-redistributed seat. He was re-elected in 2018 and again in 2022.
Outside Parliament, Josh is a committed Sydney Swans supporter, a keen runner and a casual golfer. Most importantly, he loves spending time with his wife and daughter. When Parliament allows it, they share a love of history, reading, geography and travel.
Three elections, multiple portfolios, and a consistent focus on the things that matter to Sunbury: health, education, transport, and making government work for locals.
"It is a great honour to speak today for the first time as the inaugural member for Sunbury."
The full speech, covering his family, his upbringing, the history of the Sunbury electorate, and the policy priorities he brought with him into Parliament, remains one of the clearest statements of what Josh stands for.
Whether it's a local issue, a milestone worth celebrating, or an idea for the electorate, the office is here to help.
